Bulgarian Antarctic research ship returns home

Bulgaria’s research vessel Sts Cyril and Methodius (RSV 421) is expected to return on 9 April after completing a mission to Antarctica.

The ship supported the 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition by providing logistical supplies for the country’s polar operations. After leaving Antarctica on 17 February, it made brief stops along the Brazilian coast, where crew members met local communities of descendants of Bulgarian emigrants from the early 20th century, as well as more recent expatriates.

The vessel plays a key role in maintaining Bulgaria’s St Kliment Ohridski base on Livingston Island, where scientific research is carried out in polar conditions.
