Bulgarian sprinter Hristo Iliev’s time of 6.53 seconds in the 60 metres has been ratified as a new European under-23 record, the Bulgarian Athletics Federation said.
The 21-year-old won gold with this result at the Balkan Indoor Championships in Belgrade on 21 February.
European Athletics is also expected to ratify Iliev’s second under-23 continental record of 6.51 seconds, which he set a week later at Bulgaria’s national championships.
Coached by Valya Demireva, the athlete broke the Bulgarian men’s national record three times in February, surpassing the long-standing mark set by Petar Petrov in 1978.
