Bulgarian military research ship "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" (RSV 421), which returned home after an expedition to Antarctica, was welcomed at the Varna Seaport today. "After the fourth voyage of the research ship we can now proudly say that we have established traditions, said Commander of the Navy Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov in his congratulations to the crew.

The fact that once again military sailors completed a task to Antarctica under the flag of the Naval Forces shows that the Bulgarian Navy stands firmly in its place and is capable of carrying out missions in any conditions, Mihaylov also pointed out. He commented that he did not know of any other Naval School, except the Naval Academy in Varna, that sends its cadets on a polar expedition.

The ship is key to maintaining the Bulgarian base "St. Kliment Ohridski" on Livingston Island in Antarctica, where research is conducted in polar conditions.
