Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov held a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who thanked Bulgaria for its support in the evacuation of American citizens and diplomats from the Middle East, the Council of Ministers said.

Marco Rubio expressed appreciation for Bulgaria’s increased defense spending, including the purchase of U.S. equipment. Support for the Vertical Gas Corridor was also noted, as it creates opportunities for US liquefied natural gas exports and provides an alternative gas supply source for Europe.

Andrey Gyurov briefed the U.S. Secretary of State on the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted operation of Lukoil Neftochim Burgas in compliance with the current sanctions regime, in order to ensure the stability of the energy market.

In the field of nuclear energy, Andrey Gyurov and Marco Rubio emphasized the need to secure nuclear fuel supplies from alternative sources.
