The Bulgarian town of Pernik is among the finalists for European Youth Capital 2029 title. Its candidacy is a recognition of the consistent policy in support of young people and their active inclusion in local governance, Viktoria Dimitrova, a youth mediator at the Youth Policy Advisory Council at Pernik Municipality, told BTA.
“We are currently communicating with educational institutions to offer more European context, both to attract young people from across Europe and to promote cultural exchange for our youth. The aim is for the application to be created by the young people themselves and to reflect their views and vision for the city”, Viktoria Dimitrova said.
Pernik’s candidacy is based on a long-term youth strategy developed jointly with young people and organizations. The town already has mechanisms for youth involvement. The focus is on equal access to opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, green and digital skills, and enhanced European cooperation.
