This year’s Easter table will be about 11% more expensive than last year’s, according to experts from the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research, Education and Training at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB).
The price of lamb is the main factor behind the increase. It has gone up by 20% year-on-year and currently stands at EUR 15.99 per kilogram. Lettuce, a key ingredient in the traditional Easter salad, has doubled in price and now costs up to EUR 1.20 per head.
The two most popular Easter breads—traditional and chocolate—cost EUR 2.70 and EUR 3.99 respectively for 400–500 grams, while a tray of 30 eggs is 33% more expensive than last year.
Overall, the cost of the Easter meal for a family of four is estimated at around EUR 64.
