Eight hundred slaughtered lambs earmarked for destruction over missing health identification and documentation have gone missing from a meat processing plant in Svishtov.
The incident comes just two days after inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency partially suspended the facility’s operations over violations.
The owner claims that the lamb carcasses were sent to a rendering plant in Greece. However, the inspection disputes this claim. There is a possibility that some of the meat may have entered the retail network. The search for the missing meat is ongoing.
The agency stressed that products of unknown origin or lacking the required documentation are withdrawn from the market.
