Each
Bulgarian generates an average of 94 kg of garbage and throws away 41
kg of food per year, Eleonora Yosifova from the “Zero Waste” team
of “For the Earth” Association told BNR. “Both restaurants
and food chains throw away large amounts of products,” she adds.
However, waste has a real price – about 300 euros in annual losses
for households and over 9 billion euros for the economy.
Eleonora
Yosifova points out that all the waste also affects the environment:
“The greenhouse effect is increasing. It is extremely unpleasant to
waste a resource that is actually very valuable.”
The
best waste is the one that we have not created at all, Ekaterina
Yosifova says.
“So let’s shop with a list, consciously, not overstock and share
what is left with people in need,” she advises.
