This month marks 150 years since the April Uprising. On this occasion, the British Embassy in Bulgaria is organizing a traveling exhibition about the connection between William Gladstone and the April Uprising. The exhibition is titled “Two Lions – One Cause” (How the Bulgarian uprising and William Gladstone tested Britain’s political conscience).

“With our exhibition, we want to show Bulgarians what the impact of the uprising was on the United Kingdom - on public opinion and on British politics. Gladstone wrote the book Bulgarian Horrors and the Question of the East, which had a huge influence on public opinion and was published in about 200,000 copies in just three months,” Nathaniel Copsey, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, told the Bulgarian National Television.

The exhibition will open on April 15 in Sofia at Vivacom Art Hall (5 Oborishte Street), where it can be seen until May 2, after which it will travel to Koprivshtitsa. In June, it will be shown in Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse, and in August - in Varna.

The exhibition is interactive and includes video materials, conversations with a digital William Gladstone, photographs, and documents from the era of the April Uprising.
