Sofia joins The Greatest Cities on Earth with Bettany Hughes

Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, will be featured in the international documentary series The Greatest Cities on Earth, hosted by Bettany Hughes. The initiative is organised by the Municipal Enterprise “Tourism” under Sofia Municipality (Visit Sofia).

Filming began on 11 April as part of a global series that showcases some of the world’s most significant cities through their history, culture, and contemporary identity.

The documentary will present Sofia in all its diversity — a city with a millennia-old history where different historical layers intertwine with the dynamism of a modern European capital.

Prof. Bettany Hughes is a British historian, writer and television presenter who specialises in ancient and medieval history. She has created over 50 television and radio documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Discovery and others, reaching an audience of more than 250 million viewers worldwide.
