Grain producers in Bulgaria are ready to stage protests after the elections if the government does not help mitigate the damage from the Iran war. Radoslav Hristov, chairman of the Thracian Union of Grain Producers and member of the National Association of the sector, told the Bulgarian National Radio that a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture is upcoming regarding rising fuel and fertilizer prices.
“If by Friday we don’t have a real result and a commitment, the Board will meet and decide what to do, when, how, and where, as we have always done,” Hristov said.
“It turns out that Europe is an island of high prices and high production costs, while we must compete with others who follow almost no production requirements. This is currently the biggest problem in Europe - not only in grain production, but also in meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables,” he added.
Workers at the Hail Suppression Agency have also announced readiness to strike. At the opening of the anti-hail rocket protection season, employees demanded wage increases and threatened to stop work, according to Bulgarian News Agency.
