Acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov said at a briefing that the government has replaced traditional curtained voting booths with voting screens ahead of the early parliamentary election on 19 April. Nearly 11,000 screens have been produced and distributed to all municipalities.
“We have shown that the state is better organised than vote-buyers. The result is €1 million confiscated, and police operations are continuing in the final days before the election,” Gyurov said. He added that attempts to buy votes using counterfeit euro banknotes were being prepared.
“It is up to us to catch those responsible, and it is up to Bulgarian citizens to render these efforts meaningless by voting in large numbers on Sunday, because high voter turnout is stronger than any criminal scheme,” the prime minister added.
