The
European Commission has approved Bulgaria's request to provide
temporary state aid for energy-intensive companies. The aid is
related to the reinvestment of half of the amount received in
measures to reduce carbon pollution.
It
is planned that the country will provide 334 million euros over the
next three years. Companies threatened by the need to move their
production outside the European Union due to high environmental
protection requirements will also benefit from them.
Supported
companies will be obliged to invest at least 50% of the aid in new or
modernized assets in order to reduce the costs for the electricity
grid without increasing the use of fossil fuels.
The
measure in the country will be applied retroactively from July 1,
2025 to June 30, 2028. Bulgaria will pay the aid through electricity
suppliers with a reduction in monthly bills.
