The
open-air exhibition “Sofia – City of Rivers” opens on April
17 in the capital’s Crystal
Garden
at the initiative of the Ministry of Environment and Water and
Minister of Environment Julian Popov.
Using
modern visual means, the exhibition presents possible directions for
transforming river spaces and emphasizes their role as carriers of
life, sustainability and the future of the urban environment. It aims
to raise public awareness of the importance of urban rivers and to
encourage a more active public dialogue for their natural restoration
and sustainable management.
“In
the context of climate change and increased urbanization, urban
rivers are gaining an increasingly important role as the living heart of
the modern city – not only as part of the infrastructure, but also
as valuable ecosystems that improve the microclimate, reduce the risk
of floods and create spaces for recreation and connection with
nature,” the organizers point out.
The
conceptual visualization of selected locations of river spaces for
the exhibition "Sofia - City of Rivers" was realised by
architect Dimitar Pushnikov with the support of the Sofia
Municipality.
