On Saturday, a cold front will move across Bulgaria, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms and a risk of hail. Morning temperatures will range from 5 to 10°C, reaching around 7°C in Sofia. Showers and thunderstorms will develop in the west first and spread eastwards during the day, with the strongest activity occurring in mountainous areas. Daytime highs will reach 15–20°C, around 17°C in the capital.
Along the Black Sea coast, it will be mostly sunny with occasional clouds. Rain is only expected in isolated areas in the north. Moderate to strong winds will blow from the northeast, reaching highs of 14–15 degrees. Sea temperatures will be 11–12 degrees, with waves up to sea state 3.
Thunderstorms will be more frequent and intense in the mountains, especially in the southwest, with snow falling above 1,800 metres. Maximum temperatures will be around 8°C at 1,200 metres and 2°C at 2,000 metres.
Rain in eastern Bulgaria is expected to ease by around midday on Sunday, giving way to mostly sunny conditions.
