The elections for the 52nd parliament are a topic for analysis by the world media. AFP, quoted by BGNES, recalls that the leader of the winner party in these elections - "Progressive Bulgaria" and President of Bulgaria (January 2017 - January 2026) Rumen Radev has supported the anti-government protests and called for a break with the "oligarchic model", but at the same time is in favour of resuming dialogue with Moscow, which brings him accusations of being close to Vladimir Putin. AFP also emphasizes that Radev has criticized the sending of weapons to Ukraine and has stated that he shares the positions of Hungary and Slovakia on the subject.
The
New York Times summarizes the image more categorically writing that
“Mr. Radev gained a reputation for being pro-Russian in his
comments and positions during his nine years as president.” Reuters
also emphasizes this line and describes Radev as a pro-Russian
former president who promises to fight corruption and end a
series of weak and short-lived governments.
The
Russian news agency TASS devoted an editorial to the elections in the
country. It states that the
Progressive Bulgaria coalition, headed by former President Rumen
Radev, is ahead of its rivals but the prospects for stable governance
remain unclear.
