The contract with the Turkish company “BOTAŞ” could be modified so that Bulgaria benefits from it. This was announced to journalists by caretaker Energy Minister Traycho Traykov during the Energy of Tomorrow 2026 conference in Sofia.

“At the moment, using this contract is very expensive, so it is not used unless there is no other option. But I believe the philosophy of the contract allows that, with proper calibration of its parameters, it could be of great benefit - not only for Bulgaria, but also for the region, including in relation to plans to stop all supplies of Russian natural gas starting next year,” he commented.

Yesterday, Traykov announced that an invitation had been sent to Turkey for negotiations on the signed contract with “BOTAŞ.” In February, he stated that Bulgaria is currently not making payments under the contract with the Turkish company, which could lead to retaliatory actions from the Turkish side.
