The
Olympic champion from Paris 2024 Semen Novikov has
suffered an injury
and failed to win a second consecutive final at the European
Wrestling Championships
in Tirana. He grabbed
a silver medal.
The
28-year-old Ukrainian with Bulgarian passport was defeated in the
match
for gold by Chechen-born wrestler with a Danish passport Turpal
Bisultanov with 8:4 points. Right at the beginning, during an attack
by Bisultanov, Novikov received a serious injury to the ribs and
barely finished
the match,
ultimately failing to turn the result in his favour. Immediately
after the final match, Semen, who also had a broken nose, went for an
examination for an accurate diagnosis.
Earlier,
Stefan Grigorov brought the first medal for Bulgaria from the
championships,
winning bronze in the category of
up to 55 kg in the Greco-Roman style.
