The
Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina
Georgieva, has praised Bulgaria's smooth accession to the eurozone.
"Let's
first say congratulations and bravo for entering the eurozone!
Before, there were many voices who said that this would be a negative
shock. What I see is and this is what Bulgarian citizens, Bulgarian
business, the central bank and the government can be proud of, is
that very smoothly and calmly, without stress, Bulgaria became part
of the eurozone," Georgieva said in an interview with BTA.
"There
is also something in Bulgaria that is missing in some other countries
- the Bulgarian knows how to save and it is very important that
savings work for the country and its economy," Georgieva pointed
out. It is important for the EU to achieve its goal of creating a
savings and investment union, but also for Bulgaria itself to have an
attractive and well-functioning capital market, Georgieva also
recommended.
