Caretaker Minister of Energy Traicho Traikov took part in the 11th Delphi Economic Forum in Greece. Minister Traikov took part in a panel dedicated to energy security. He presented a Bulgarian initiative, supported by Romania, Greece, Ukraine and Moldova, to send a joint letter to the European Commission seeking support for the development of the strategic Vertical Gas Corridor.
Minister Traikov stressed that 15 years ago Bulgaria was fully dependent on a single supplier and route, resulting in monopoly pricing. According to him, gas interconnections with Greece now provide an alternative.
He also noted that, in order to balance the electricity system, the country will build pumped-storage hydropower plants with battery systems with a total capacity of around 10,000 MWh, financed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, BGNES reported.
