The Czech Centre in Sofia ceases operations

The Czech Centre in Sofia is about to end its operations. “With great sadness, we inform you that, by a decision of the Director General of the Czech Centres Network, the Czech Centre in Sofia will be closed and will cease its cultural and educational activities in Bulgaria”, the institution said in a statement, as cited by BTA and BGNES.

The planned events will be carried out until the end of May.

This is the fourth branch of the Czech Centres Network to close this year. The organization, which operates under the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has already announced the closure of its branches in Milan, Stockholm and Tbilisi. The downsizing is due to financial reasons— this year the ministry has allocated a budget of 157 million Czech koruna to the institution, compared to 180 million in 2025.
