Border authorities prevent smuggling of tropical butterfly pupae to Türkiye

Smuggling of tropical butterfly pupae was prevented by customs officers at the “Kapitan Andreevo” border crossing, the Customs Agency in Svilengrad has reported. The incident occurred on April 25, when a bus with two drivers and 14 passengers arrived at the customs inspection line.

Customs officers found a box with a polyethylene bag containing 530 butterfly pupae on the penultimate seat in the passenger compartment. According to the explanations of one of the drivers, the shipment was handed over to him to transport to Istanbul. The pupae were handed over to the Regional Natural History Museum in Plovdiv, where there are suitable conditions for their hatching.
