Flights at Burgas Airport are set to resume on 1 May, following the reopening of its refurbished runway. After a six-month overhaul of the coastal airport, the first aircraft, operated by the national carrier Bulgaria Air, landed from Sofia.
The reconstructed runway is expected to ensure the safety and security of flight operations for more than 20 years, Burgas-based correspondent Daniela Kostadinova reported. The concessionaire’s investment totals 60 million euros, representing the largest investment in airport infrastructure in the country.
Airport management is optimistic about the upcoming tourist season. So far, no flights have been cancelled, and the first Israeli tourists are expected to arrive on 20 May.
