A total of 239 MPs in the newly elected National Assembly took an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the country, and in all their actions to be guided by the interests of the people.
By tradition, the inaugural sitting of the 52nd National Assembly was opened by the oldest MP, 77-year-old Rumen Milanov

“The fact that you are younger than me fills me with hope for reason. More than 3 million Bulgarians voted and sent us here with a clear message. A significant part of this hope was entrusted to the new political force that is taking over the governance of the country. This is a major challenge and an even greater responsibility. This parliament begins its work after a difficult period—people are tired and want rules, order and stability. Responsibility today is personal, and each of us bears it. Through personal example, we must restore the meaning of concepts such as honor, dignity and patriotism. The law must stand above all. Only then will justice become a reality that people can feel. We live in uncertain times marked by division. We must preserve peace”, Rumen Milanov said in his address.
