The documentary film “Soul Beyond Measure”, which tells the personal stories of people of different nationalities with no family ties to Bulgaria and the Balkans, but who have dedicated their lives to the study of Bulgarian folklore, can now be seen in cinemas. Screenwriter and director of the film, Sofia Stoycheva, met her first characters in 2012. These are the Swiss from the “Sedyanka” group, then celebrating 25 years since its creation. The film also focuses on Catherine Springer, who in 1979 founded the Bulgarian folk dance ensemble “Bosilek” in New York, as well as Japanese Shiro Ishizaka, who founded the Bulgarian folk dance group “Detelina” in Tokyo.
“Soul Beyond Measure” was filmed in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Japan and Bulgaria over a period of seven years. It has been shown to Bulgarian communities in several countries and will be screened in Germany and the United Kingdom.
