Around 1.7 million vehicles are expected to travel for May 1 and St. George’s Day. Heavy traffic is anticipated across the country over the holiday period. On May 1 and 3, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the movement of heavy trucks over 12 tons leaving Sofia via the three main highways— “Trakia,” “Hemus,” and “Struma”—will be restricted. During the three-day holiday period (May 1-May 3), the Traffic Police will carry our increased control at the most critical points in the country. A temporary traffic arrangement will be put in place between Simitli and Kresna.
In the coming days, similar restrictions will be introduced at various locations across the country to ease traffic.
Traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border checkpoints on the border with the Republic of Türkiye is extremely intense for outbound freight vehicles, according to the Border Police. Traffic is normal at all other border checkpoints and crossings with Bulgaria’s neighboring countries.
