Bulgaria is seeking closer ties with its diaspora in Argentina, Brazil and Chile after a visit by Rayna Mandzhukova, head of the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA). During the trip, she met members of Bulgarian communities and local officials, the agency said.

In Buenos Aires, discussions focused on cultural cooperation and support for the diaspora, alongside a book launch on Bulgarian migration and a documentary screening.

In Brazil, the delegation marked 100 years since a major wave of migration by Bessarabian Bulgarians. The community there is estimated at between 10,000 and 65,000 people, mainly in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Several individuals were honoured, and a Bulgarian school in São Paulo was also visited. The delegation also met Alejandra Ganev, a 106-year-old member of the community.

In Santiago, Ms Mandzhukova met members of the local community. While there is no formally registered organisation, Bulgarians in Chile continue to keep their traditions alive. The agency said the visit underlined Bulgaria’s commitment to supporting its communities abroad and strengthening cultural links.
