Traffic at border crossings and checkpoints with all neighboring countries is normal, the Border Police reported. At the Ruse–Giurgiu border crossing with Romania, repair works are underway on the Bulgarian section of the Danube bridge, and traffic is being regulated in a single lane.
Around 75,000 vehicles are expected to leave Sofia on May 5 ahead of the upcoming St. George’s Day (Gergyovden), the Road Infrastructure Agency announced. Traffic is expected to be heaviest in the afternoon hours, with the main flow heading toward the “Trakia”, “Hemus” and “Struma” motorways. On May 5 and 6, truck traffic over 12 tons will be restricted during certain hours on the motorways.
One person died and 22 were injured in road accidents across the country over the past 24 hours, the Traffic Police reported. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,774 serious accidents, resulting in 135 fatalities and 2,218 injuries.
A total of 48 fires were extinguished over the past 24 hours, with one fatality reported, the Directorate General Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service said.
