Bulgaria has introduced its first official rules for telemedicine following the promulgation of the long-awaited Ordinance on Remote Medical Care, the press center of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health announced.
The ordinance stipulates that telemedicine may be used only when a level of safety equivalent to an in-person examination can be ensured. The decision to conduct a remote consultation is made by the medical specialist based on clinical judgment in each individual case.
The new regulation explicitly prohibits performing activities remotely that require mandatory physical contact, such as childbirth assistance, certification of death, and certain specific dental procedures, the ministry stated.
