At a parliamentary hearing, caretaker Minister of Finance Georgi Klisurski and MPs from Progressive Bulgaria (PB) entered into a dispute over the country's financial condition. The largest parliamentary formation warned of the risk of growing debt and financial pressure on a future government. PB MP Konstantin Prodanov expressed concerns that the financial situation was dire and the new rulers would have to "put out fiscal fires" instead of implementing ambitious reforms. According to him, there is a risk of new debt in order to maintain social payments and payments to businesses and municipalities.
Minister Klisurski
dismissed such concerns. According to him, the financial condition is
"adequate" in the conditions of the current extended
budget. According to data from the Ministry of Finance, the fiscal
reserve as of April 30 is 6.8 billion euros. Revenues for the first
quarter increased by 11% year-on-year, and inflation is around 4%.
According to him, collection is improving and there is economic
growth.
