Giro d'Italia participants pass through the Balkan Mountains

On May 9, the participants of Giro d'Italia will face a long and hilly stage. The cyclists will start from Burgas (the final from the previous day) and pass through the Balkan Mountains to Veliko Tarnovo. The distance they will cover is 220 km, and the elevation gain and drop is 2600 m. Veliko Tarnovo is expecting more than 50,000 tourists to welcome the competitors.

Throughout the day, the city will host parades of musicians and folklore groups, games with prizes, a children's cycling competition, and concerts. The cyclists are expected to enter Veliko Tarnovo at 5 pm, correspondent Zdravka Maslyankova reports. On May 10, the competitors will complete the third stage - 174 km from Plovdiv to Sofia.
