Bulgaria marks Europe Day – May 9

Head of State Iliana Iotova will attend a ceremony to raise the European Union flag in front of the presidential institution on the occasion of Europe Day. Before the ceremony, which is scheduled for May 9 at 10:00, the President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief will greet the National Guards Unit, the presidential press service announced. Earlier in the day - at 9:00, Iliana Iotova will lay flowers at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in memory of the Bulgarian soldiers who died in the fight against Nazism.

For Europe Day, the streets of Sofia will also come alive with a bicycle procession, in which the mayor of the capital, Vasil Terziev, ambassadors of the EU countries and citizens will ride side by side with a message of unity. A "European Village" will be located in front of the National Palace of Culture - a space for meetings, tastes, ideas and inspiration. Music will also be everywhere with performances by No More, Many More, Veniamin, Dara Ekimova and Elizabet, the Sofia Municipality website reports.
