Bulgarian Ivelina Banyalieva was elected a councillor in Peterborough in the local elections in the UK. She received 37.8% of the vote. She is the first Bulgarian councillor from the Conservative Party and the first representative of the Eastern European community in Cambridgeshire, “BG BEN” newspaper has reported.

Ivelina Banyalieva is 38 years old and originally from Karlovo. She has over 15 years of experience in project management and leadership. Her decision to become a municipal councillor came after she became convinced that the Bulgarian and Eastern European community needed a strong voice in local government.

"When it comes to the Bulgarian and Eastern European community, one of my main missions is to encourage their participation in public and political life," the Bulgarian says.
