“The government’s first task is to present the real inflation data,” President Iliana Iotova told reporters in Veliko Tarnovo.
“We do not need to deceive ourselves; let us see reality as it is,” Iotova said, adding that the government can take immediate measures to bring prices under control.

With the fruit and vegetable season beginning, the first measures should target this area, because it is not normal for a country that produces its own food to have exorbitant prices for basic fruit and vegetables, she added.
Asked which short-term measures she would prioritise, Iotova said they should focus on curbing inflation.
