The Ministry of Finance has proposed an end to automatic pay rises for certain government positions, including MPs and ministers.

"No one can receive a base salary higher than that of the president,' stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev, as reported by BNR's Marta Mladenova.

Mr Donev pledged that taxes would not be raised and that pensions would increase by 7.8% from 1 July.

From 1 August, the maximum social security income will rise by €189 to €2,300, while the minimum social security thresholds will increase by 5%.

Galab Donev also confirmed that funding would be secured for the 2027 Eurovision contest in Bulgaria. The country will host the music event next year after DARA won first place in this year's contest in Vienna, Austria.
