Dr. Angel Mavrovski, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, has been removed from office by Prime Minister Rumen Radev, BNR has learned. The order for his dismissal was made on the proposal of Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski and takes effect as of today.
Dr. Mavrovski was appointed at the end of February by the caretaker government, and in recent months his work has been associated with a number of major revelations, including illegal slaughterhouses, closed meat processing facilities, and tons of destroyed produce due to violations of food safety regulations.
Dr. Mavrovski has been succeeded by Prof. Dr. Svetla Yancheva. According to Agriculture Minister Plamen Abrovski, who proposed the change, Mavrovski has demonstrated that the agency is capable of functioning effectively, while Prof. Yancheva will build on the achievements made so far.
She is a lecturer at the Agricultural University Plovdiv and previously served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
