Bulgaria celebrates one of its brightest holidays – the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavonic Literature. Thousands of students, teachers, cultural figures and citizens march in the streets of the country to the sounds of the school anthem "March Ahead, O Revived People" to express their gratitude to the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

The
first historical celebration of the holiday was in 1851 in Plovdiv.
This year the city marks the day with a solemn parade of letters. In
addition to students from the city's schools, choirs and brass bands
participate in it.
All
residents and guests of the city will also be able to see the
exhibition "Primary Books of Generations of Bulgarians",
which on May 11, the church holiday of our first enlighteners,
"turned the space around the Demeter Fountain in Tsar Simeon's
Garden into a kind of time machine", notes the Plovdiv
Municipality on its website.

The
exhibition is organized by the "Prosveta" publishing house
with the support of the Plovdiv Municipality. It presents all 13
primers of the publishing house - from its founding in 1945 to the
present day. The project is by Svoboda Tsekova and Anton Staykov and
traces the changes in graphic design, illustration and social values
over the past 80 years.
