People evacuated overnight in the Veliko Tarnovo region due to flooding

A state of emergency has been declared in Veliko Tarnovo after the Yantra River overflowed following torrential rainfall.
There are no reported injuries, but many properties have been affected.
The Yantra River burst its banks during the night in Veliko Tarnovo and flooded the lower part of the “Asenov” neighborhood. More than 120 liters of rain per square meter fell over Veliko Tarnovo and the surrounding settlements between 8:00 p.m. and midnight.
Low-lying areas in Debelets, Prisovo, and Pchelishte were flooded, including yards and ground floors of buildings. Authorities say there are no casualties. However, significant material damage has been caused to the road network.
Mayor Daniel Panov assisted in evacuating an elderly woman from Grigoriy Tsamblak Street in the “Sveta Gora” neighborhood.
Authorities have also organized evacuations for the low-lying parts of the “Asenov” neighborhood and Kraybrezhna Street.
The whole yard of the historical church "The Forty Holy Martyrs"in Asenov neighbourhood has been flooded, the water has not entered the church itself.
Police, fire brigade teams, and personnel from the National Military University are on site. Evacuated residents will be accommodated at the Crisis Center in the “Zona B” district.
Rescue operations continued throughout the night, with Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov also taking part.
