Nearly 200 dancers will perform authentic Bulgarian folk dances continuously for 100 minutes in Pleven today during a folklore marathon marking the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature.
The event, organised by the municipality and the Severnyatsite folk dance ensemble led by Dzheylyan Demirev, will take place on Vazrazhdane Square starting at 1 p.m. local time. If it rains briefly, it will be postponed until 3 p.m.

“The aim of our initiative is to support Bulgarian traditions and authentic folk dances in their original form,” Demirev said at a press conference.
"I am concerned that, within one or two generations, Bulgarian folklore will change significantly and become unrecognisable. More and more often, my colleagues are creating new dances that bear no resemblance to Bulgarian folklore,” he added.
