Education Minister Prof. Georgi Valchev called for stronger cooperation between schools, families and society to help educate young people and raise “individuals who think freely and responsibly about Bulgaria’s future”. His speech was on the occasion of Bulgaria’s May 24 holiday honouring Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of the Slavic alphabet. The holiday also pays tribute to generations of Bulgarians who have helped to preserve the country's language, culture, and literary traditions.

“Children succeed when they grow up in a society that believes in the power of knowledge — when families support schools and teachers inspire young people and help them to discover themselves,” said Valchev.

The minister recalled that, during the Bulgarian National Revival under Ottoman rule, nearly every Bulgarian settlement had sought to build a school despite scarce resources.

“People raised funds and contributed their own labour because they understood that the future of their children and of the nation depended on education. Back then, the school was a cause embraced by the entire community,” he said.

Valchev also called for respect for the Bulgarian language to be preserved in the digital age.
