After the floods in northern Bulgaria, people are clearing their flooded homes

The situation after the floods is gradually returning to normal, Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, Director of Fire Safety and Population Protection has told BNT. A state of emergency was declared in several municipalities in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo and Lovech due to the intense rainfall that began on Saturday night and the subsequent overflowing of rivers. In some places, people had to be evacuated, houses and yards were flooded, and roads were closed.

A search is underway for a 55-year-old man who is missing after the torrential rains in Sevlievo. Today, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov, the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Natalia Efremova and Minister of Agriculture Plamen Abrovski are visiting Sevlievo to inspect the restoration of damaged water supply system after the torrential rains in the region. Nearly 20,000 people in the city and six other villages have been left without drinking water for the third day after a section of the water pipeline was cut off due to the rising level of the Vidima River. People are clearing their homes of mud and destroyed furniture after the disaster.
