Bulgaria’s traffic police will no longer hide “in the bushes” waiting for traffic offenders, acting Interior Ministry chief secretary Georgi Kandev said during a national meeting of the Interior Ministry in Plovdiv, according to BTA.

Instead, police patrols will be deployed in areas with a high concentration of road accidents, Kandev said. He added that the ministry was conducting an analysis to determine where patrol units should be positioned.

Kandev also announced the results of a nationwide operation targeting businesses dealing in scrap metal and dismantled vehicles. According to the Interior Ministry, authorities carried out 970 inspections of sites handling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as 722 scrapyards and facilities dismantling end-of-life vehicles. More than 1,000 official reports were issued, 800 people were detained, and 454 pre-trial proceedings were launched.
