Ministry of Culture: No reduction in delegated budgets for culture

The coalition “Democratic Bulgaria” (DB) said in a statement sent to the media that “libraries, theaters, community centers, and other cultural institutions have been instructed to cut their budgets to 90% of last year’s level.”

Several hours later, the Ministry of Culture denied these claims. “The 10% reduction in spending on salaries and wages, in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s guidelines for the 2026 draft budget, does not apply to activities financed through delegated budgets in the field of culture — theaters, operas, philharmonic orchestras, galleries, libraries, community centers, art schools, and others”, the Ministry of Culture said in a statement.
