Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that an investigation will be carried out to determine who, a year ago, pressured the former acting chairperson of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to revoke an order for the expulsion of a Ukrainian citizen connected to illegal construction near Varna. He linked the case to processes which, according to him, affect Bulgaria’s national security.
“A year ago, precisely from Varna, in my capacity as president, I publicly raised before your media the question of why the Ukrainian citizen heading the KUB group was expelled from Bulgaria, and then, two weeks later, the head of SANS revoked his own order. This is unprecedented. I sent an inquiry to SANS, but received no response from any institution. One year later, we are already witnessing very broad, extensive, and deep-rooted activities. We will do everything possible to establish what factors, and why, forced the acting head of SANS at the time to revoke his own order. Investigations will be conducted,” Radev said, as BNR Horizont reported.
Yesterday, Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev announced that construction of an illegal complex in the “Baba Alino” area near Varna had been halted. The investor is the Ukrainian corporation KUB. The approximately 10-hectare complex is considered illegal because construction permits had not been issued, BNR correspondent Daniela Stoynova reported.
According to members of parliament from “We Continue the Change,” the large-scale illegal construction near the Golden Sands Nature Park had political protection and is linked to the arrest of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev.
