Bulgaria has started preparing its 2026 state budget, while preparations for the 2027 budget are also under way, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Galab Donev said during talks with acting U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Martin McDowell, according to the Finance Ministry.

During the meeting, Donev said the government was focused on addressing economic and social challenges linked to global uncertainty and stressed that public finance management remained a key priority. He said the government expected its policies and fiscal measures to support businesses, citizens and foreign investors operating in Bulgaria.

The talks also touched on broader cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States, with both sides highlighting what the ministry described as relations based on mutual trust, shared democratic values and cooperation on issues of common interest.

The meeting comes amid continued economic and geopolitical uncertainty across Europe and growing attention to Bulgaria’s fiscal planning following the country’s entry into the eurozone.
