The Customs Agency has intercepted 1,050 parcels in courier and shipping companies as part of Operation “Hydra”, reported the agency’s Deputy Director Stefan Bakalov. According to him, drugs are increasingly being distributed in this way rather than through traditional dealer schemes, with purchases being made from countries where there are no strict prohibitions on all types of narcotic substances.
“The number of intercepted parcels is definitely alarming. Even more concerning is that there are cases in which the delivery was ordered by children and even parents were looking for their children's shipment without knowing what it contained”, said Prosecutor Desislava Petrova from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, BNR’s correspondent Marta Mladenova informed.
A key focus of the customs officers’ actions is the detection and seizure of drug shipments disguised as vapes, candies, lollipops, cookies, and herbal substances, BGNES clarifies.
