“Congratulations on your win in the parliamentary elections. It can bring much-needed stability to the Bulgarian people and to the region”, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen following her meeting in Brussels with Prime Minister Rumen Radev, reported BTA. She noted that this has been a very important year for Bulgaria following the country’s accession to the eurozone. Von der Leyen pointed out that two out of three Bulgarians consider the transition to the euro to have been smooth and efficient. “The momentum of reforms must be maintained. I want to highlight the good progress made by Bulgaria in anticorruption”, Ursula von der Leyen added.
She also noted that she and the Bulgarian Prime Minister discussed the modernization of Bulgaria’s energy sector. “Clean energy transition must benefit every part of Europe and reach every citizen”, von der Leyen summarized.
“We also discussed geopolitics. We share a firm commitment to reach a lasting diplomatic solution for the Middle East”, Ursula von der Leyen said. “We spoke about the security challenges on our borders and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. The security threats on our eastern border are testing Europe as a whole”, she added.
