Visitors will have a chance to step inside Bulgaria’s leading astronomical research centre on Sunday as the Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory hosts its traditional Open Doors Day. The event coincides with the Christian feast of Pentecost, which is also the patronal holiday of the Holy Trinity chapel built in 1935 near the entrance to the observatory’s iconic 2-metre telescope tower.

Guests will be able to learn more about the work of Bulgarian astronomers through short presentations inside the telescope tower, home to the largest of Rozhen’s five observational facilities. Visitors will also have access to the panoramic terrace overlooking the Rhodope Mountains.
Astronomers from the Institute of Astronomy with National Astronomical Observatory will answer questions about space exploration and present some of the latest scientific projects currently under way at the observatory.
