Bulgaria’s parliament gave final approval on Thursday to the reinstatement of the Anti-Corruption Commission, lawmakers said.

Supporters of the proposal from the Progressive Bulgaria coalition said the move was aimed at securing funding under the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, reporter Maria Fileva said.

The new anti-corruption body will consist of five members serving five-year terms, while the chairmanship will rotate annually.

Members will be nominated by the president, parliament, the Supreme Bar Council, and the general assemblies of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court.

The Commission will report to parliament every six months and submit an annual report on its activities.

The legislation defines 52 categories of public officials that will fall under the Commission’s oversight, including the president and vice president, lawmakers, ministers and constitutional court judges.
