Bulgaria can play an active role in building a competitive Europe, and a united Europe is needed more than ever, President Iliana Iotova said in her address to participants at the sixth edition of the Green Transition Forum. This year's event focuses on a competitive, innovative and secure Europe.

Commenting on the idea of a two-speed Europe, Iliana Iotova said it may seem like a convenient mechanism for faster decision-making, but in the long-term it carries the risk of political fragmentation, regional blocs and new invisible borders within the European Union.

According to her, the EU was not created to rank member states as first- and second- class countries. ''Its greatest strength lies in its ability to turn differences into a shared direction'', said President Iotova.
